We will start the day with a leisurely 45 mile tour over scenic roads in the Central Massachusetts area, followed by a “bring-your-own” picnic on the grounds of the Collings Foundation in Stow, MA., and concluding with a guided tour of the Foundation’s vintage aviation, armor and automobile collection. The scenic drive starting point will be at AlphaCars, 649 Mass Ave, Boxborough, MA. Click here for directions.
The Collings Foundation collection includes over 60 vehicles from the early-to-mid 20th century, with a variety of midget, sprint, Indy and other race cars and a remarkable collection of fully restored road cars ranging from the brass era to the forties. In addition the museum is home to an armor collection and a half-dozen of the Foundation’s smaller aircraft ranging from an original 1909 Bleriot XI to a late 40s T-33 jet trainer. Click here for more information about the Foundation and their touring collection of flyable WWII and Vietnam era aircraft.
Cost is $15.00 per person ($20.00 per person the day of the event) with all proceeds going to the Foundation. Registration opens June 10; to register click here. You may attend just the facility picnic/tour if you wish, but the fees are the same. Aside from picnic supplies, you may want to bring a blanket or folding chairs, and be prepared for sun. There are a couple of opportunities to buy picnic-type food along the route, and in the event of rain the picnic is indoors. The Boston chapter of the BMWCCA is being invited to join us.
